Following Tuesday’s announcement from the Prime Minister there have been some new COVID19 restrictions enforced which may impact the way that your business is ran. You may need to make the necessary changes to remain compliant to these new rules.
A month ago 1000 people were testing positive for the coronavirus per day. This figure now stands at 3929 a day. Therefore the UK’s COVID alert level has been raised from 3 to 4. This is the second most serious stage, meaning transmission is high or raising exponentially. The government have decided that new restrictions need to be introduced in England in order to react effectively to the increase of cases. They have predicted that these restrictions are likely to be in place for six months.
Office workers who can work from home are to do so. In all key public sectors, and in all professions where homeworking is not possible, i.e. construction or retail, people should continue to go to work.
All pubs, bars and restaurants must operate table services (except takeaways). Additionally to this, all hospitality venues must close at 10 p.m. Takeaway restaurants must close too, but deliveries can continue.
All staff in retail, users of taxis, private hire vehicles, and staff and customers in indoor hospitality (except when seated at table to eat or drink) must wear face coverings.
In retail, leisure tourism and other sectors, the governments COVID-secure guidelines will become legal obligations. Businesses will be fined or closed down if they breach these rules.
Wedding ceremonies and receptions attendees reduced from 30 to 15.
30 can still attend funerals.
Rule of 6 to all adult indoor team sports.
Cannot reopen business conferences, exhibitions and large sporting events.
Fines up to £10,000 for those who fail to self-isolate and for businesses breaking COVID rules. Penalties for failing to wear a mask or breaking rule of 6 will double to £200 for a first offence.
