Three-quarters of Europeans would consider international roles

According to research from ADP UK employees are significantly less interested in overseas opportunities than their European counterparts.

In the poll, which surveyed 10,000 working adults, 74% of Europeans would consider other countries to find new career opportunities. The top destinations being Germany at 21%, the UK at 15% and France at 12%. UK interest in working abroad fell well above the average, with 58%open to moving country, making us the least interested country in international assignments after France.

 

 

In UK regions, Northern Ireland ranked highest in their appetite to work abroad, with 91% of the population open to this. They were followed by London residents who charted at 77%, while only 45% of those in the North East wishing to move.

 

 

David Collings, professor of human resource management at Dublin City University Business School and expert in global mobility, told HR magazine about his thoughts on how moving abroad to work can improve many aspects of your employability and personal growth: “The growth that happens through broadening one’s horizons, learning the skills to interact in different cultural environments, and the resilience that can come from finding one’s way when abroad are all hugely valuable.”

 

 

Jeff Phipps, managing director at ADP UK, said it is evident that Europeans have an appetite for international work and highlighted the benefits of fluency in international employment: “Encouraging cross-border movement of talent, while employing people from diverse backgrounds, is crucial for ensuring global competitiveness by accessing critical skills.” Both experts opinions contrast government policy and the incoming Brexit.
